FAQ's

This section provides answers to the most frequently asked questions about how you can use your Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) to fund your training courses with us. We cover everything from the application process and eligibility to the specific courses available, ensuring a smooth and straightforward experience for all service leavers and personnel.

What is the ELCAS Scheme?

The ELCAS (Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service) scheme is a government initiative that promotes lifelong learning for members of the UK Armed Forces. It provides financial assistance to help service personnel and veterans pay for courses and training that lead to a nationally recognised qualification. The purpose of the scheme is to support their career development both while they are in service and as they transition into civilian life.

We providing training courses in the Electrical, Gas, Renewables, and Apprenticeship sectors, you can see a full list of our courses on the ELC portal here.

Our ELC Provider Number is: 11580

The ELCAS scheme requires you to pay a minimum of 20% of your total course cost. Your personal contribution amount will be detailed on your Claim Authorisation Note (CAN) form. Simply send this CAN form to us, and we will then send you an invoice for the full amount.

A Claim Authorisation Note (CAN) is the official document issued by the ELCAS scheme. It is a formal authorisation that confirms your eligibility and the amount of funding you have been approved to receive for a specific course. You must present this form to us before you can enroll in your chosen training course, as it serves as proof that the funding has been secured.

Should you require a payment plan, we ask that you submit a formal request in writing. This request will be reviewed by our Centre Manager, John, who will then provide you with a decision and a proposal.

The ELCAS scheme provides a contribution of 80% towards the cost of your course, with a minimum personal contribution of 20% required from you. The maximum funding you can receive depends on your tier:

  • Lower Tier: You are entitled to a maximum of £1,000 per financial year, up to a total of £2,000.
  • Higher Tier: You are entitled to a maximum of £2,000 per financial year, up to a total of £4,000.

Eligibility for funding is determined by your length of service.

  • Lower Tier: You need a minimum of four years of qualifying service completed before April 1, 2017, OR at least six years of eligible service if you enlisted on or after April 1, 2013.
  • Higher Tier: A minimum of eight years of eligible service is required.

To find out who you need to speak to about claiming your Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC), it depends on whether you are currently serving or have already left the Armed Forces.

  • If you are still serving, you should speak with your local Education Staff or Resettlement Officer. They can verify your eligibility and guide you through the process of submitting your online claim.
  • If you are a service leaver, you need to contact your Single Service Representative (SSR). They will be able to assist you with your claim and provide the necessary authorisation. You can find their contact details here.
