Traditional solar training can leave you feeling unprepared. Our course flips the script, delivering a real practical base you can build your career on. You’ll move beyond theory to immediately apply your knowledge on our dedicated, simulated roof environment.

This intensive, 2-day course is structured to be a real practical base course, dedicating only ½ day to theory and a full 1.5 days to hands-on practical work on our simulated roof environment.

 

Who Should Attend?

  • Electrician’s Mates and Tradespeople: This is the perfect course for those who will be carrying out the roof work alongside an electrician.
  • Post-Qualification Learners: Ideal for anyone who has already completed a Solar PV theory course but requires more in-depth, physical installation training.

No formal pre-entry requirements are necessary to enrol.

 

Key Practical Skills Covered:

  • Full Installation Process: Installing roof rails/hooks and mounting structures on various roof types and tiles.
  • Precision and Aesthetics: Measuring and ensuring panels are perfectly square and cosmetically aligned.
  • Component Familiarity: Hands-on work with solar panels, batteries, inverters, and all system components.
  • Compliance: Understanding MCS Regulations and installation standards.
  • Testing: Procedures for system testing before and after installation, including the array.

Certification: This course provides a CPD Certification upon completion, focusing purely on practical skill development rather than formal qualifications.

We cover every critical step of a professional Solar PV roof installation, from system design to final commissioning.

 

1. Solar PV Fundamentals & Components

Build a solid basic understanding of solar technology. This module covers the core elements you’ll be working with every day:

  • The function of solar panels, inverters, and batteries.
  • In-depth look at all balance-of-system components and wiring.

 

2. Regulatory Compliance for Installation

Understand the critical rules for legally installing systems in the UK.

  • Comprehensive overview of MCS Regulations and the role of all relevant bodies.

 

3. Advanced Roof Design & Site Assessment

Learn the technical skills to plan an efficient and compliant installation.

  • Techniques for optimal roof design and lay outs.
  • Identifying and mitigating effects that may reduce the function, such as shading and roof orientation.
  • Detailed instruction on different roof constructions, types, inclines, and roof tiles.

 

4. Full Practical Installation: From Hook to Panel

This is where the majority of your time is spent. You’ll gain muscle memory and confidence by performing a full practical installation from start to finish on our simulated roof:

  • Installing roof rails/hooks and mounting systems correctly.
  • Measuring and ensuring professional standards, guaranteeing panels are square and cosmetically perfect.
