Course Entry Requirements

To ensure you have the necessary electrical foundation, you must hold the following qualifications:

• A current Level 3 qualification in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2018 AND
• A Full Level 3 NVQ qualification (or equivalent) OR a current ECS Gold Card (issued by the JIB or SJIB).

What You’ll Learn

Over three consecutive days, you will gain the practical and theoretical knowledge required to work with solar PV systems. The course covers key topics, including:

• Health and Safety: Understanding and mitigating risks, especially those associated with roof work.
• Installation: Practical skills for installing solar panels and understanding the difference between A.C. and D.C. circuits.
• System Design: Requirements for the design, positioning, layout, and sizing of solar PV installations.
• Maintenance & Commissioning: How to maintain, commission, and fault find on installations.
• Documentation: The completion of all necessary paperwork and customer handover procedures.
• MCS Requirements: An introduction to the requirements needed for MCS registration.

Qualifications You Gain

Upon successful completion, you will earn the LCL Awards Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of a Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems. This qualification is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), a crucial step for becoming an MCS-approved installer. We also offer guidance on the application process if you need it.
