Our goal is simple: to get you off the sidelines and into a successful career as a skilled gas engineer.
We’ve built this course to be as practical as possible. You’ll spend time in the centre mastering the theory, but you’ll also get out of the classroom and into real practical training. This ensures that when you finish, you’re comfortable working in a home environment, not just on a test bench.
We also focus on the parts of the job that often get missed. You’ll learn the ins and outs of being a pro tradesman, from talking to customers to making sure you leave their house exactly how you found it. You’ll leave us with the technical skills to do the job and the professional “know how” to run a successful, respected business.
We’ve redesigned our course into four straightforward stages to make your training work for you.
Stage 1 covers the essential theory and hands on skills of your Managed Learning Programme (MLP), broken down into six manageable sessions:
Session 1 | The Fundamentals (5 Days) Your first week is all about the “rules of the road.” You’ll learn the essential gas safety regulations, how combustion works, and how to ensure proper ventilation. This week builds the safety first mindset you’ll need for the rest of your career.
Session 2 | Pipework & Soldering (2 Days) This is where you get hands on with the tools. You’ll master precision copper pipe bending and professional soldering. High-quality pipework is the mark of a great engineer, it needs to look good and, more importantly, be leak-free.
Session 3 | Intensive Practical Training (15 Days) This is the core of your practical training. Over 15 days, you’ll be in our training bays practicing your applied skills. This is where you get comfortable with the tools and equipment you’ll use every day on the job.
Session 4 | Boiler Servicing & Fault Finding (5 Days) In this session, you’ll move beyond the basics. We focus on keeping boilers running safely and efficiently. You’ll learn how to install & service boilers and use a logical approach to find and fix faults, the kind of work that separates a good engineer from a great one.
Session 5 | Assessments (5 Days) This is your time to show what you’ve learned. You’ll complete a series of practical and written assessments to prove you have the knowledge and skills required. Passing this week confirms you are ready for your on-site portfolio and final ACS exams.
Session 6 | Portfolio (12 Days) The final step is proving your skills in the real world. To be certified for your Managed Learning Programme, you must build a portfolio of evidence by working on live jobs under the supervision of a qualified engineer. This bridges the gap between the training centre and your new career.

Once you’ve mastered the training in Stage 1, it’s time to apply it. To progress to your final ACS exams, you must produce evidence of real-world competence. You will need to document:
4 boiler installs
4 services
4 maintenance jobs
1 pipework job
We provide the jobs via our simulated training area and arrange “real-life” site jobs in residential homes. This includes all necessary marking and sign-off by our expert team.

Materials Provided: All materials & tools required to complete the portfolio jobs are supplied.
Transitioning from learning to assessment can be daunting. This 3-day “brush-up” programme is highly recommended for candidates who want to ensure they are fully confident before sitting their final ACS exams.
This stage will revisit the most critical elements of your Managed Learning Programme. It is designed to iron out any bad habits and refresh your technical knowledge.
Comprehensive Recap: We review all core gas safety and appliance modules.
Focused Support: Small group sessions to answer your specific technical questions.
This is the final step toward your new career. Over five days, you will undergo rigorous practical and theory assessments to prove you are ready to work safely and professionally in the gas industry.
Many topics are covered within your package through a combination of home study and practical training sessions. You will gain a well-rounded skill set that includes:
Health and Safety: Comprehensive training on health and safety protocols, risk assessments, and method statements.
Gas Regulations: In-depth knowledge of gas installation and use regulations, including the Gas Industry Unsafe Situations procedures.
Water & Heating Systems: All aspects of hot and cold-water systems, central heating systems, controls, valving, and pumps.
Electrical Skills: Electrical safe isolation, use of a multi-meter, and fault finding.
Pipework: Different types of pipework installations, soldering, and pipe bending.
Domestic Gas Installations: Meter installations, tightness testing, purging, and pipe sizing for domestic gas installations and appliances.
Combustion & Ventilation: Understanding combustion, ventilation, and chimney systems.
Appliance Skills: Installation, servicing, and fault finding for domestic gas boilers and instant water heaters.
Energy Efficiency: Learn about energy efficiency in heating systems.
Business Support: Guidance on the Gas Safe registration process and business set-up support.
Upon successful completion of the programme and sign off of your full portfolio, you will gain the following industry recognised qualifications, which are necessary to undertake your ACS Assessments in order to apply to register with Gas Safe or work for a Gas Safe registered business.
DNGA3: LCL Awards Managed Learning Programme Training Qualification in Domestic Natural Gas Appliances
Upon successful completion of the Stage 4 assessments, you will be qualified in:
CCN1: Core Domestic Gas Safety
CPA1: Combustion Performance Analysis
CENWAT: Central Heating Boilers & Water Heaters
The Result: Once you have these qualifications in hand, you are officially eligible to apply for registration with Gas Safe, the hallmark of a professional gas engineer in the UK. By splitting our course into these four stages, we ensure you arrive at this final step prepared, confident, and ready to succeed.

Our government and/or Levy funded ACS Domestic Gas Apprenticeship, available for those aged 16-65 years old, with regular enrolment, run one day a week for 12-18 months. We don’t close for the school holidays.
6-24 Months
Embark on a new career path with our comprehensive Domestic Natural Gas Appliances course.
