What is a First Call Operative?

A First Call Operative (FCO) is a key professional in the gas industry, often the first to respond to a variety of situations. They are responsible for responding to emergencies, such as gas escapes and leaks, and carrying out essential maintenance on commercial gas installations, pipework, and meters. This is a critical, hands-on role that requires a strong understanding of safety, diagnostics, and problem-solving.

Course Overview & Content

This comprehensive Managed Learning Package provides a structured pathway to becoming a qualified FCO. Our programme blends expert-led training with real-world experience, ensuring you’re fully prepared for the demands of the job.

How the Course Works

Our MLP is a blended learning experience, combining in-centre training with practical on-site portfolio work.

  1. In-Centre Training: The course begins with a focused 5-day in-centre training period. Here, our expert trainers will guide you through the theory and practical skills of each module in a state-of-the-art facility.
  2. On-Site Portfolio: Following your initial training, you’ll complete a required on-site portfolio. This involves documenting a minimum of 10 individual jobs using our user-friendly online portfolio builder, ‘Ecordia’. You are responsible for arranging your own on-site work, but you will receive full guidance, advice, and support from our team on how to find opportunities and complete your portfolio successfully.
