While there are no formal qualifications needed to enrol, it is an essential prerequisite that candidates are already experienced in installing either cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, or external wall cladding systems, ensuring the course material is relevant to their practical work.

This one-day, theory-intensive course focuses on the risks associated with insulation and cladding installation in homes with gas and other fossil fuel appliances. Key topics covered include:

  • Risk Management: Understanding and mitigating the dangers related to installing Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation (CWLI) in dwellings where gas and other fossil fuel appliances are present.

  • Safe Operation: Practical methods for reducing the risk of negatively affecting the safe and efficient operation of gas and other fossil-fuelled appliances.

  • Appliance and Flue Systems: Detailed understanding of the various types of chimney systems (flues) and gas appliances commonly found in domestic properties.

  • System Mechanics: How different chimney systems work to safely remove combustion products.

  • Combustion Fundamentals: The principles of gas and other fuel combustion.

  • Legal Compliance: Your personal and corporate legal obligations and responsibility concerning gas safety during installation work.
