DNGA3 – Domestic Natural Gas Appliances

This in-depth course is designed to provide you with the necessary knowledge and hands-on skills to work safely and professionally with domestic natural gas appliances, specifically focusing on central heating boilers and instantaneous water heaters. The programme is structured to meet and exceed industry standards, ensuring you are fully prepared for the mandatory ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) assessments with us and eventual Gas Safe Registration.

 

What You’ll Learn: Course Modules & Key Skills

Our curriculum is meticulously crafted to cover all critical aspects of gas engineering. Key modules include:

  • ACS CCN1 (Core Gas Safety): The foundation of your gas engineering career. This unit covers the essential safety principles and regulations required to work with natural gas.
  • ACS CENWAT (Central Heating Boilers and Instantaneous Water Heaters): Specialised training focused on the installation, servicing, and maintenance of domestic boilers and water heaters.
  • ACS CPA1 (Combustion Performance Analysis): Learn how to use flue gas analysers to test the efficiency and safety of gas appliances.
  • Safe Isolation: Master the crucial skill of safely isolating gas and electrical supplies to prevent accidents and ensure a secure working environment.
  • Energy Efficiency: Understand the principles of energy efficiency in heating systems and how to advise clients on the most effective solutions.
  • Gas Safety Regulations: A deep dive into the legal requirements, standards, and best practices governing gas work in the UK.

How You’ll Spend Your Time: A Blend of Theory and Practical sessions

Your time on the course will be a dynamic mix of classroom learning and practical, workshop-based activities. You will:

  • Complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements to ensure every job is conducted safely and professionally.
  • Learn about Asbestos Awareness to identify and handle potential risks on job sites.
  • Apply your existing Plumbing Knowledge and Skills in a gas-specific context.
  • Receive an Updated Gas Training Manual and a Portfolio to document your practical experience.
  • Practice Design, Quoting, and Communication Skills essential for a real-life working environment.
  • Receive full guidance on the Gas Safe Registration Process and ongoing Business Set-up Support.

 

Practical Portfolio: Real-World Experience

A key component of this course is the completion of a practical portfolio. This is a mandatory requirement for your ACS assessments and a vital part of your training. The portfolio must be completed alongside a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer, who can be from your workplace or a personal contact.

The portfolio needs to include:

  • Five Boiler Installations
  • Five Boiler Services or Repairs

We will provide you with detailed guidance on the documentation and evidence required during your first session at our training centre.

 

Entry Requirements

To enrol on this course, you must hold a Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing or an equivalent qualification. This ensures you have the foundational skills required to progress effectively through the gas training.

 

Certifications and Assessments

Upon successful completion of the course and your portfolio, you will be assessed on:

  • Managed Learning Programme Assessments
  • ACS Domestic Assessments (CCN1, CENWAT, CPA1)

Passing these assessments is the final step toward becoming a fully qualified and certified gas engineer.
